Kyle DrabekThis year has been called The Year of the Pitcher in baseball. With so many no-hitters and two (three?) perfect games, not to mention countless close calls for no-hit bids, pitching truly has been at the top of the conversation this season. But the marvels on the mound do not stop with major league hurlers. There are dozens of guys with blue chip arms in the minors who will not even step into a major league stadium. One of those guys is Kyle Drabek.

Tim LincecumTim Lincecum rebounded from an 0-5 August by pitching one of his best games of the season against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. Lincecum was masterful in leading his team to a tight, 2-1 victory to help improve their place in the standings, and he did so against one of 2010’s best starting pitchers, Ubaldo Jimenez. A pitchers duel unfolded at AT&T Park that ended with The Freak showing why he’s a two-time defending Cy Young Award winner.

Manny RamirezManny Ramirez made top headlines again on Wednesday afternoon. But as much as they were for making his debut in a Chicago White Sox uniform, they were also about the idea that he may chop off his dreads. Manny’s hair has always been a topic of conversation, but seemingly never as much as in the last two days. Baseball’s #99 is now faced with a decision to conform with everybody else or continue the Manny Being Manny personage.

Henrik SedinThe rumor mill is at it again as word is spreading across the Internet that Roberto Luongo will not be captain of the Vancouver Canucks this upcoming season, but instead will have the captaincy stripped and handed to forward Henrik Sedin. Jose BautistaDamien Cox of the Toronto Star pointed out this past weekend that Jose Bautista, the major league home run leader, may be having such a dream season due to – yup, you guessed it – performance enhancing drugs. He did not state whether he knew for a fact that Bautista was juicing, just merely that we, as fans, have an obligation to question such a dramatic increase in performance thanks to what we’ve witnessed in the last 20 years of Major League Baseball.

Pete RosePete Rose, baseball’s infamous gambler, still is not – and may never be – in the MLB Hall of Fame. But the former Cincinnati Reds player and manager will be honored by his former club for the 25th anniversary of his breaking Ty Cobb’s all-time career hits total. The Reds received permission from MLB Commissioner Bud Selig to honor the disgraced hitter for just the second time since being banned in 1989. Rose missed out on the Reds honoring of the 1975 World Series champions in 2000 as well as the old-timers softball game commemorating the closing of Cinergy Field in 2002.

Carl CrawfordOne of the biggest reasons for the Tampa Bay Rays’ emergence as an American League powerhouse has been Carl Crawford. The 1999 second round pick has grown up and become a premier major league left fielder, but when his 2010 season comes to an end, so will his contract and likely his time in St. Petersburg. Crawford will be a free agent this winter and will entertain offers from most of the teams in the league.

Tomas KaberleThe summer’s ongoing story between Tomas Kaberle’s no-trade clause and the Toronto Maple Leafs who was in trade talks with other teams possibly came to an end last night. Kaberle’s contract allowed him to be traded up until 12:01 a.m. EST, but that deadline came and passed and Kaberle is still the property of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment. It looks like he’ll report to Toronto’s training camp and wear the blue and white for another season, unless he waives his no-trade clause at some point, but that likely won’t happen until the trade deadline.
